National Public Lands Day Invasive Fish Round-Up

Invasive fish are causing a problem in our Florida waterways. They can cause mass damage to the native wildlife by outcompeting other species and their population continues to grow. To combat this threat Myakka River State Park is hosting an Invasive Fish Roundup and we would love to have YOUR help!

This event is being held to raise public awareness about the potential negative impacts of releasing invasive fish into Florida waters, and to encourage anglers to target these invasive species. The Roundup will also gather data about invasive fish distribution and abundance that can assist with future management. There will be an adult individual division (16+), adult team division, a youth individual division (15 and under), and a youth team division. Any youth registered on a team with adults will automatically be grouped in the adult category. Teams can be up to four participants. Weigh-in will be from 9am until 3 pm on Saturday, September 28th. All fish must be kept on ice prior to arrival at the weigh-in station.

Registration: Pre-registration is encouraged and entrance fees to the park will be waived for participants registered by 1pm on Friday September 27th. Walk-ins are also welcome and can register onsite beginning at 8am on Saturday September 28th. Registration is FREE, but please consider donations to help with event costs.
